Smit Industrial Heat Treatment offers a wide range of services in the field of heat treatment. The following is a summary of our services. Click on a service to view more information.

  • Pre-heating

Pre-heating can be used to bring the material to a certain basic temperature prior to welding, to ensure that stresses occurring during the welding process are minimised.

  • Shrinking and loosening of shrink-fitting connections

If a permanent connection is not possible or desirable, our loosening and shrinking technology offers the solution. Local heating allows us to fit and remove shrink-fitting connections.

  • Soft annealing

Using the “soft annealing” technique makes it possible to soften material so that it is easier to process. This reduces the wear on your business resources to an absolute minimum!

  • Tempering

A material must be tempered as soon as possible after hardening.

  • Normal annealing

Normal annealing can be used to return material to its original state. This is, for example, desirable when material is weakened because of a certain production process.

  • : HGCT – Hot Gas Cycle Test

The “in-operation situation” of the device at operating temperature is simulated in a Hot Gas Cycle Test. This simulation involves flushing gas through the device in order to determine the leak-tightness.

  • PWHT – Post-Weld Heat Treatment

The stresses that can be caused by welding around a weld seam can lead to cracking. A Post-Weld Heat Treatment removes these stresses and prevents crack formation in the weld.

  • Lease/Sale

Smit Industrial Heat Treatment leases resistance and induction equipment. This equipment is relatively easy to operate, and the heating elements are easy to install. Smit also supplies various consumables.

  • Solution annealing

Solution annealing is a heat treatment during which phases are dissolved. This allows you to convert undesired material structures into desired structures.

  • Refinement

Refinement is hardening and subsequently tempering at a high temperature. The goal is to achieve the highest possible tensile strength and toughness.

  • Homogenous annealing

Homogenous annealing creates a homogenous structure in the heat-treated object, which has become heterogenous due to, for example, a casting process.

  • Drying

The drying of concrete is specialised work that must be executed with extreme care. The controlled heating of the heat-resistant concrete layer expels moisture and creates an effective and durable layer of insulation.

  • Annealing heat exchangers

The annealing of heat exchangers is a special craft. Smit has developed a unique method for this purpose, whereby only one treatment is required to anneal the entire heat exchanger. Applicable at any location.

  • Expertise and support

Smit Industrial Heat Treatment will gladly provide you with custom advice on heat treatments. Feel free to contact us for more information. We will then visit you and jointly develop a custom-made plan.

  • Hardening

Steel is hardened to make it stronger and more wear-resistant. This is usually done by heating the material, followed by rapid cooling. Hardening is normally followed by a tempering step.

  • Precipitation hardening

Precipitation hardening relates specifically to the hardening of types of stainless steel, with the goal to harden the material while retaining the properties of stainless steel.

  • Recrystalising annealing

Recrystalising annealing is applied on cold-formed or highly deformed steel, with the goal to facilitate germing and the growth of new grains, but without changing phase. This eliminates the consequence of major plastic deformation.

  • Ageing and renewing

Ageing or renewal is applied to aluminium. This material has a certain basic hardness, which must be either aged or renewed, thereby making the material either softer or harder before and after processing.
